Somatic Therapy
Somatic Therapy is a body-centered approach to healing that focuses on the connection between the mind and body, particularly in processing and releasing stored trauma. It was pioneered by Dr. Peter Levine, who developed Somatic Experiencing (SE) in the 1970s after studying the ways animals naturally discharge stress and trauma. Levine observed that, unlike humans, animals in the wild rarely experience lasting trauma because they instinctively complete the body's natural stress response. His work laid the foundation for somatic-based therapies, emphasizing the importance of bodily awareness, movement, and nervous system regulation. It is now widely used in psychotherapy, bodywork, and trauma recovery to help clients heal beyond cognitive processing alone.
By working directly with the body’s sensations, Somatic Therapy helps release stored tension, allowing the nervous system to reset and return to a state of balance. Trauma and stress can create patterns of contraction and dysregulation in the body, leading to symptoms like anxiety, dissociation, or chronic pain. Somatic practices—such as breathwork, guided movement, and body awareness—help clients complete incomplete stress cycles, freeing up space in the nervous system for greater ease, resilience, and emotional freedom. This process empowers individuals to respond to life with more presence, rather than being trapped in past patterns of survival.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps individuals process and heal from distressing memories, trauma, and negative beliefs. Developed in the late 1980s by Dr. Francine Shapiro, EMDR was discovered when she noticed that rhythmic eye movements seemed to reduce the intensity of disturbing thoughts. This insight led to the development of a structured therapy that enables the brain to reprocess stuck experiences, reducing emotional distress and fostering resilience.
By using guided bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements, taps, or sounds—EMDR helps unlock the brain’s natural capacity for healing, allowing distressing memories to be processed in a healthier, more adaptive way. Whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, or self-limiting beliefs, EMDR can help you move forward with greater ease, clarity, and emotional freedom.
Person-Centered Approach
Rooted in the groundbreaking work of Carl Rogers, Person-Centered Counselling is a compassionate, non-directive approach that honors your uniqueness and empowers you to navigate life’s challenges with greater self-awareness and confidence. Rather than giving advice or interpreting your experiences, the therapist provides unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuine curiosity, creating a space where you feel truly seen and heard.
By trusting your inner compass, this approach helps you reconnect with your own wisdom and strengths, fostering deep personal growth and healing. As Rogers beautifully stated, “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
